The Altar Circle membership maintains the flowers and plants that are on the pulpit and throughout the church. On Palm Sunday, the ministry provides Palms for the Church. The board also purchases the scarves for the pulpit. Meetings are held the Second Saturday of each month at noon.
The Brotherhood ministry’s mission is to actively implement and enhance the ministry of the church, and impact the local community by utilizing our resources, encouraging and supporting leadership, and the causes that help men in our church, and community through Christian values. The Deaconess Ministry is a support ministry to the Deacons. The Deaconess prepares the Communion table every first Sunday and assist the candidates for baptism. The members also visit, telephone and send cards to the sick and shut in members of the congregation. They also offer spiritual support to the bereaved. The Deaconess meets on Tuesday before the first Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
The purpose of SMBC Hospitality Ministry is to create an atmosphere of love, fellowship, warmth, and a sense of welcome to all who enter the facility. To be of assistance to those who may need special assistance because of physical challenges. The Media Ministry is responsible for the video and audio taping of all services and events held at the church. They are also responsible for the production of cd’s and dvd’s used for distribution to the sick and shut-in, prison ministries and those purchased by members and visitors. Members of the Media Ministry attend classes for camcorder certification and the operation of the soundboard.

Mid-Week Services: Prayer and Bible Study Noon Bible Study is led by Pastor Wyne. Wednesday Evening TAP (Testimony – Adoration - Prayer) Time is held at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall prior to the evening Bible Study (6:50 p.m.). There are three Wednesday evening classes at 6:50 p.m. They are facilitated by Pastor Wyne, Mrs. Thelma Vaughn and Mrs. Josie Howard- Wyne.
The Missions Ministry assists the Pastor and Deacons with visits to the sick and bereaved families. They are directly responsible for any benevolence outreach ministry the church participates in. The Missions Ministry meets the first and third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m.
The Guild members are present to assist with the emotions of the congregation, those who may become ill, mothers with babies, the pastor, and to be in charge of first aid room/area. All the members of the Second Baptist Guild should be certified in CPR. The Nurses Guild meets the 2nd Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m.

Senior Usher Ministry The mission of the Senior Usher Ministry is to serve the congregation at worship services, funerals, and programs. We welcome members and visitors, pass the collection plate for church offering, and serve as door-keepers during services. The Usher Ministry meets the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

The mission of The Sisterhood is to fellowship with the women of the Church to create a community of sisterhood through love and service. The Sunday School meets each Sunday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. There are classes available for every age group from pre-school to adults. The Sunday School serves as a training unit of the church to enhance the mission by TEACHing, EQUIPping, and REACHing those who haven’t accepted CHRIST as their Savior and to help those who have to learn more about CHRIST and their walk with Him.
The Trustee Board takes care of all the Church’s property including the collection and disbursement of all monies and payroll. The Trustees are responsible for all tangible assets i.e. furniture, office equipment, buses and vans. These duties also include the exterior up-keep and equipment of the property. Members of the Trustee Ministry are recommended and elected by the membership to a two or four year term.
|Bradford Memorial Scholarship Fund|
Major Helen Hollins funded the Bradford Memorial Scholarship Fund with money from her brother’s estate, the late Dudley Bradford. Major Hollins had a vision for the future of young people at Second Missionary Baptist Church. A scholarship committee was appointed by then pastor, Rev. Albert Thomas, to evaluate potential recipients. To date numerous scholarships have been given out. Major Hollins’ vision is now a reality.
|Reading Incentive Program|
Second Baptist Church is in a partnership with Battle Creek Public Schools and Yes We Can to host an after-school reading tutorial program for first through fifth grader students. Sessions are held Tuesday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tutors are welcomed. Our goals are: To improve students reading/comprehension skills. To help the students improve their scores on the MEAP Test.

The purpose of the Youth Ministry of Second Baptist Church is to introduce the youth to Christ for the acceptance of Him as their personal Savior. The Golden Age Society promotes programs and activities to create a better relationship and enhance fellowship throughout the church membership. The Golden Agers work in the community and engage in activities of the church. Members of this group must be fifty years old or older and a member of Second Baptist Church.
